Oxford Innovation Space has published our 2024–25 Net Zero Annual Report, building on the commitments set out in last year’s report and marking continued progress on our journey towards becoming Net Zero by 2050.
Now in its second year, the report reflects a shift from establishing our environmental baseline to embedding sustainability more consistently across our operations, procurement and partnerships. It captures what we have learned so far, where progress has been made, and where further action is needed as our organisation continues to grow.
The report highlights strong progress in areas within our direct control, particularly in reducing emissions linked to purchased electricity through cleaner energy procurement and renewable energy strategies. At the same time, it recognises that emissions across our value chain have increased, largely driven by business growth and procurement activity. These findings reinforce that achieving Net Zero is not a single milestone, but an ongoing journey that requires transparency, learning and collaboration.
By measuring and reporting on our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across our UK wide network of innovation centres, we are improving our understanding of our footprint year on year. This insight is shaping our next steps, including continued work on centre level Carbon Reduction Plans, supplier engagement, sustainable procurement and travel policies, and employee engagement and training.
We remain committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, cutting Scope 3 emissions by 50% by 2040, and reducing total emissions by approximately 90% by 2050. As the UK’s largest operator of innovation centres, we also recognise the opportunity to support businesses, partners and communities across our network as they navigate their own sustainability journeys.
